Comfortable Footwear
One Step at a Time… Make it be Comfortable
Comfortable footwear can keep you from having to deal with many possible foot problems. If the shoes you put on your feet do not fit properly, many bad things can happen.
- bunions
- calluses
- corns
- hammertoe
- claw toe
None of those deformities are enjoyable, and some are downright dangerous and painful.
As you look for comfotable footwear, there are some things you should keep in mind.
To prevent pinching or pressure on your toes, be sure you find shoes that are wide, both in length and depth, in the toe area. On the other end of the shoe, look for a good amount of support in the heel area. Any weakness in that area can cause undue stress on your legs or knee and ankles.
Depending on your lifestyle and amount of activity you perform each day, there are other factors to consider.
- removable insoles allow you to adjust the fit of the shoe
- a mesh or breathable fabric on the upper shoe can keep your feet cool and dry.
- Velcro can make fastening your shoes easier and more adjustable
- padded tongues can help reduce friction and increase comfort
- rocker soles made of polyurethane can absorb shock and be comfortable on the ball of your foot
- shoes with a large enough outer-sole increase stability while walking or doing other activities
My first year teaching I made the mistake of buying the cheapest shoe I could find. Six months and painful corns later, I wised up and realized that money spent on shoes was a wise investment with long-term comvort benefits.
