Geocaching Can Help You Find Your Way

Geocaching might just be the most enjoyable activity you have never heard of. Even if you have heard the term, it’s likely you have no idea what it is or how much fun it can bring to you and your famimly.
Geocaching is an outdoor activity using Global Positioning System receivers to find “geocaches” that have been hidden in various places.

A cache is usually placed in a waterproof container to protect a logbook and several small trinkets that might be inside. These containers are placed in intriguing places by others. The GPS coordinates of the location are then placed in selected online sites. Other identifying characteristics of the location are included. Other geocachers then go on a trek to find those boxes at that location. When found, the seekers place their name and date in the included logbook. They may also include their adventure online. Often the geoseekers will trade a small trinket they have brought with those left behind by others.

Geocaching exploits can range from urban to wilderness areas. Some require extensive hiking and sometimes climbing, while others are more moderated, even easy, to get to and find. Whether you do this alone or with friends or family, this activity gets you out and about. Like all good hiking and unusual activities, geocaching gives you a great opportunity to explore interesting places and meet intriguing and friendly participants.

To get started we suggest investigating the sites we recommend, purchasing a book from those listed below, and selecting from one of the handheld gps units shown below.
